Need More Traffic? Optimize Your Website! (Part III)
By: Rick Parrott, MCP
According to the Google website, the best way to get attention from them is to have a website full of high quality information. This advice appears to be true for other search engines also.
This is why you hear the phrase “Content is King”. Your content can make or break your website.
I know you are thinking, “Where do I find high quality content.” There are several answers to that question.
Write It!
The best option is to write you own web content. Share your knowledge with your visitors. It will boost not only your ego, but also your credibility.
People love experts. Become an expert in their eyes and they will trust you. Just do not abuse their trust.
One of the quirks of the web is that people do not read online text the same as they read offline text. When reading online they tend to scan over the information, zeroing in on items that catch their eye.
Your job is to help them out. Headers and bulleted list are particularly suited to this method of reading.
Another way to assist your readers is to break your information into smaller pieces. Short paragraphs and sentences are easier to read and will keep your readers attention focused on your message longer.
If you do not have the time, or desire to write your own web content, there are other ways it can be obtained.
Buy It!
Keeping in mind that people trust experts, you can have a ghostwriter write your web content and you present it under your name.
If you provide the underlying expertise, a good ghostwriter can quickly develop articles to display your knowledge.
Another approach is to buy content from a professional in your area of need. For example, you might buy computer-oriented information from someone and post it on your website. By giving them a byline, you can still increase the credibility of your website by associating with other experts.
I know! That takes money! If you cannot afford to buy content, try this method.
Borrow It!
There are many places where you can obtain quality content free. Sites such as ezinearticles.com have large libraries of free content. By sifting through these sites, you can fill your website with as much information as you need.
Try these sources.
Ezinearticles.com
Articlecity.com
Articlealley.com
Activeauthors.com
Businesstoolchest.com
There are many others available.
Now you know where to get your web content, we need to define what content is acceptable.
Pull out your keyword and keyword phrase list again. The information on your list must be prominent in your content. It is not necessary to include every word and phrase in every article, but every article should include some of your keywords and phrases. Keyword rich text will help you the search engines categorize your website.
Do not fall into the trap of letting your content get old. By frequently changing the information you can increase the number of times the search engines look at your site.
In the next installment of this series we will explore the world of linking and see how it can rocket your website to the head of the class.
Meanwhile, do not forget that Google and many of the other search engines look for keyword rich websites that frequently update their content. Will your website be one of them?
